"I have had nothing but positive reports from the many patients I have referred to you for therapy and fitness. Thank you for your fine work."
Physical therapy used to do little more than rehabilitate surgical patients and accident victims. But as health care has changed, the role of physical therapy has greatly expanded. For example, today's health care places a greater emphasis on preventing illness rather than just treating it, on improving quality of life rather than just maintaining it. Physical therapists can help you achieve these goals through programs like preventative exercise regimens, postural improvement therapy, pre-surgical conditioning and overall physical conditioning. In fact, today's physical therapist treats a variety of patients in ways you might not have considered. Physical therapy patients include chronic pain (to regain function despite pain), dental patients (to help correct craniovertebral disorders), adolescents (for scoliosis screening), cancer patients (to treat orthopaedic problems), and many others.
Physical Therapy Specialists, PC is a group of professionals dedicated to providing the most effective physical therapy programs available in the medical field. To do this, we must establish a healthy working relationship with both the patients and the referring physician. Our facility is designed to effectively address your needs and those of your physician's office.
Our licensed physical therapists have advanced training in Orthopaedics, Strength and Conditioning, Neurology, Mobilization, Sports Therapy, TMJ Dysfunction, and or Fitness Evaluation Programs. All are qualified to develop physical therapy programs and coordinate these with your referring physician. Our therapists maintain active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association both at national and state levels, and we belong to various specialty sections such as the Orthopaedic, Sports Physical Therapy, Pediatric, Private Practice, and Women's Health sections. All therapists are board certified in orthopaedics when able to sit for the board exam.
Our practice has a "team approach" philosophy. You will generally be assigned to a specific physical therapist who will coordinate and manage your program. Your "team" may include supportive staff such as Physical Therapist Assistants and Physical Therapy Techs. Also, because our therapists have come from a "patient-sharing" environment, they are quite able to work together during your therapy here should your scheduling or therapy needs indicate. Our physical therapists regularly coordinate your program both verbally and in writing, by daily progress notes and periodic re-evaluations.
People with the following conditions are candidates for treatment in our office:
- Spinal Dysfunction
- Chronic Pain Syndrome
- Neurological Impairment
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Connective Tissue Disorders
- Orthopedic Pathology
- Sports Injuries
- Jaw, Facial, and Neck Dysfunctions
- Postoperative Conditions

- Arthritic Conditions
- Adhesive Capsulitis
- Vestibular Disorders
We evaluate new patients thoroughly during their initial visit. We then schedule a comprehensive therapeutic regimen and send your referring physician a complete report of our initial findings and a proposed plan of care. As treatment progresses, we update your doctor with concise and informative summaries on a timely basis. All patients with diagnoses amenable to physical therapy are accepted for treatment.
Your treatment program may include an exercise program to increase strength, decrease muscle spasms, or to improve functional movement. Our facility offers Eagle Cybex progressive resistance equipment that allows for individual fit of equipment for added safety and effectiveness. We tailor each exercise program to the physical needs of you, the patient. We also offer Stairmaster, Biodex, and Nu-Step. Patients with spine related diagnoses will benefit from our back stabilization exercise program. This is designed to specifically train the back muscles to protect the spine during activities of daily living. All exercise programs are progressed to meet each patient's functional needs to enable return to optimal levels of work and leisure activities.
A major emphasis of our practice is on home program development and modification - we design home programs as necessary for both rehabilitation and prophylaxis. They are continuously modified as changes occur in a patient's status. We feel that you, as the patient, play a large role in your rehabilitation, and your consistency in following-through with this program will greatly improve the effectiveness of our treatment and the speed of your recovery. Our goal is not to keep you coming to physical therapy permanently, but to help you reach your maximum potential, and to teach you how to stay at that level on your own.
The final step is to introduce our step down program. This program is designed for patients almost ready to be discharged from physical therapy, and heavily emphasizes exercise with goals to return patients to maximal activity levels. Patients in this program will have the availability of using the full body whirlpool for muscle relaxation after their exercise and cool-down periods, if this is authorized by their physician. Patients are also able to perform hydrotherapy exercise in the whirlpool. Other modality-type treatments are eliminated at this time to go along with the step-down concept. Upon discharge, patients will be prepared to follow through with their individual program either at home or out in the community. Alternatively, they may join our on-site fitness center, Professional Fitness Inc. A fitness membership at our facility allows clients to develop an individual program that will be instructed, supervised and modified as needed by our professional staff.
