There are many reasons to make self-care a priority both because of and despite the COVID-19 pandemic. There is only one you. Taking care of yourself will allow you to be the best version of yourself and be there for the people you love.
Here are some great ways to practice self-care:
Don’t put off doctor’s appointments. Small aches and pains can turn into bigger problems if left unchecked. Are you having back pain? When was the last time you went to the dentist? Don’t ignore any symptoms you are having and make sure you go to routine and preventative appointments.
Exercise. Making exercise an important part of your life can make a huge difference in your physical and mental health. It can improve your strength and balance, lower your risk of disease, improve your mood, and help you sleep better.
Eat well. Your food choices have a significant impact on your health. Are you eating enough fruits and vegetables? Are you drinking enough water? What you eat can help you get the energy you need to stay healthy.
Keep stress levels in check. Prolonged stress can lead to physical problems like high blood pressure, decreased immunity, headaches, and difficulty sleeping. Schedule time to relax. Write in a journal, go for a walk, or talk with friends to help decrease stress.
Make time for things you love. Do you have a hobby you enjoy? Is there something new you can learn? Doing things you love can bring you joy.
Get enough sleep. Adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Your body needs sleep to stay healthy and maximize brain function.
If you’ve been feeling down or burned out, try adding some self-care into your routine to help boost your energy so you can be your best self. Take time for self-care because you matter.
