Boost Your Energy Level this Summer

A few small changes to your daily routine may be just what you need to beat the heat and get more energy. Here are some tips to stay cool and energized:

Eat lighter meals more frequently throughout the day. Large or heavy meals can make you feel lethargic. Choose foods with a high water content and make sure you are drinking enough water to stay hydrated.

Pick the right clothes. Make sure you are wearing lightweight breathable fabrics to keep cool. Fabrics like cotton and linen are good choices because they are breathable. A variety of athletic clothing options made from moisture-wicking fabrics are also great options for working out and staying cool in the heat.

Exercise regularly. While it may seem counterintuitive, exercising regularly can reduce fatigue. Not only will exercise help to boost your energy levels and improve your physical health, but it is known to have a positive effect on your mental health as well.

Time of day matters. When spending time outdoors, go out early in the morning or evening to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Choose your location wisely. When participating in outdoor activities, find a place with shade if possible. Instead of going for a road run, go for a jog on a shaded path to stay cool and conserve energy. Swimming is also a great choice to help cool off in the summer months. On really hot days and during heat advisories, try an indoor workout at home.

Make sure you are getting enough sleep. It’s hard to keep your energy levels up when you are tired. No matter what season it is, adults should get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night.  Start the day off on the right foot with a good night’s sleep to stay energized.
